History

Estudios Hispánicos is the oldest of the Polish journals publishing research about Spanish Studies entirely in Spanish or in other languages of the Iberian Peninsula. It was founded in 1988 in Cracow; the first volume, edited by Teresa Eminowicz, Jerzy Sławomirski and Piotr Sawicki, included papers from the "Primer Simposio Nacional de Hispanistas Polacos" (1985), organized at the Jagiellonian University. After the “Segundo Simposio” (1990) the publication moved to Wrocław, where in 1992 the second volume was issued. From this moment on, Estudios Hispánicos was included as part of the Actas Universitatis Wratislaviensis at the initiative of Piotr Sawicki, who served as editor-in-chief until 2005.

In addition to the main goal of publishing scientific research, an essential part of the dissemination process involved documenting the editorial activity of the Hispanism in Poland as well as literary and cultural relations between Poland and countries of Iberian languages, through book reviews, research notes, conference reports, etc., which appear regularly since 1997 (volume VI).

Prof. Piotr Sawicki

In 2011 (volume XIX) the journal ensured the process of continuous improvement by creating both a Scientific and Advisory Board. However, from the beginning the Editorial could rely on the support and collaboration of outstanding Spanish and Polish Hispanists: Eugeniusz Górski, Polish Academy of Sciences (Poland); César Hernández Alonso, University of Valladolid (Spain); Antonio Lara Pozuelo, University of Lausanne (Switzerland); Roberto Mansberger Amorós, University of Alcalá de Henares (Spain); Emma Martinell Gifre,  University of Barcelona (Spain); Evelyne Martin-Hernandez, Blaise Pascal University of Clermont-Ferrand (France); Florian Śmieja, University of Western Ontario (Canada).
